Roquetas de Mar may be a peaceful fishing village but that doesn’t mean that you won’t have plenty to keep yourself & the whole family happily entertained throughout your holiday here. You will find two amazing beaches here offering you miles of sandy space to take advantage of and plenty of water sports to try in the warm Mediterranean waters. You will also find a fantastic aquarium boasting a whole range of varied sea life from tiny seahorses to huge sharks that’s perfect fort he whole family. There is also an entertaining go-kart centre to the northeast of the resort where you can have some holiday fun whether you’re by yourself, with friends or with the family. But that’s not all there is, not far from the centre of the resort is a large golf club suited to all levels of golfers. Here you will find challenging fairways, water features and bunkers that are tricky to get out of once you get in them. The views here of the natural landscape are beautiful mainly due to there being a nature reserve right next door. This wonderful green area is perfect for those who appreciate nature at its best. There are also a number of birds here that would be a great spot for any bird watching enthusiast.
You won’t be short of restaurants to choose from, as there is a superb range throughout the resort, so no matter how fussy you or the kids are with their food, you won’t have trouble finding something suitable. For the adults, there are plenty of British bars offering tons of fun entertainment for the evenings and for the shopaholic, the local shopping centre makes the perfect place to spend some time deciding what to buy with your hard earned cash.
Enjoy hot summers, mild winters and warm springs & autumns throughout the year in Roquetas de Mar. With summers keeping average highs around the 29 degree mark, you won’t have to worry about whether the weather is going to be nice or not, as the summer months remain pretty much cloud and rain free. Early autumn remains warm with average highs ranging between 23 and 28 degrees Celsius. If you’re expecting freezing blizzards during winter then you will be pleased to hear that winter remains comfortably mild with highs averaging between 12 and 17 degrees Celsius.
Although the resort is located within one of the more quieter regions along Spain’s eastern coast it’s still offers plenty to keep you entertained throughout your holiday. These include fun activities to try, historic sites to see and two beautiful beaches where you can relax and soak up the golden sunshine on soft sand and in front of the clear blue waters of the Mediterranean. The main beach is aptly named Roquetas de Mar beach and stretches for over 3km. Here you will find a selection of fantastic water sports that are sure to wake you up and energise you after a sunbathing session has got you all relaxed and feeling a little sleepy. A promenade along the rear of the beach runs along it’s length giving you the freedom to walk from one end of the resorts sea front to the other end, giving you the chance to see it all and explore different areas of the resort. If you journey further up the coast to the north you will come to Aguadulce beach. Although it’s a little further away than Roquetas de Mar beach (approximately 4km), it’s still worth your time, as it offers a more peaceful and relaxed environment with the same fine sand and calm waters.
Close to the centre of the resort you will find Roquetas aquarium. This excellent aquarium is great for both adults & kids, as it is home to a selection of fascinating fish from around the world and larger species including eels, rays and octopuses. Oh and don’t forget about the sharks! Once you’ve had your fill here, why not move on to some even more exciting action by trying out the local go karting centre! This is another attraction that’s perfect for both adults & kids and you won’t have to worry about letting the little ones have a go, as an adult can sit in the cart with them and control the breaks, while they steer. If that sounds a bit too stressful, take some time to clear your mind by exploring the local nature reserve. Las Marinas is a great place to spend the afternoon and is perfect for bird waters, as it attracts many beautiful species of birds including avocets and you’ll love the resident flamingos! If you would rather relax by playing a round or two of golf then you’re in luck, as the local golf course is right next to the nature reserve. Club de Golf Playa Serena as it is known, offers a selection of challenging holes and even if you end up in a bunker, it will be almost impossible to get stressed thanks to the stunning natural views surrounding the course.
The weather during the summer months in Roquetas de Mar is lovely & hot with summer highs averaging at around 29 degrees Celsius. High temperatures during the summer can easily reach the mid thirties and during a heat wave, highs can even reach close to 40 degrees Celsius! This means that the chances are, you will have wonderfully hot weather throughout your summer holiday in this lovely resort. With 320 days of sunshine a year the other seasons aren’t too bad either. Autumn is another great time to visit, as the weather stays warm with averages ranging from 23 to 28 degrees Celsius. Skies remain relatively clear also, especially in early autumn, so you can still head down to the beach and soak up the scorching sunshine.
Temperatures will start to drop off slightly towards the end of autumn and when winter sets in, you can expect average highs to drop to between 12 and 17 degrees Celsius. High temperatures during the winter have been known to increase to the high teens to low twenties, so if you’re lucky, you can spend a Christmas break away and open you presents on the beach under the warm winter sun. However, winter lows can get into single figures but on the plus side, you won’t have to worry about having air conditioning to sleep comfortably during the night. Spring will pick the temperature back up again to between 23 and 27 degrees on average. Late spring is a great time to visit, as you will get the first heat of the busy season without having to deal with the crowds that the summer holidays attract. The heat is much more bearable than the summer, so you can spend longer in the sun without having to take a break. But make sure that you take plenty of sun lotion, as well as lots of bottled water to keep hydrated.
